Co·echo is a speculative design project where we asked:
1. How do people interpret space through sound?
2. How do we make people feel like they’re in the same space, despite being in a virtual call?
Online call experiences rarely consider the way perceived spaces can make people feel. Current spatial audio experiences focus on simulating direction and distance so that we could imagine others conversing around us. But what if we consider not just where people are located, but the emotional effect of spaces and the associated atmospheres? Real life spaces can be intimate or distant, cozy or cold, and these qualities can directly impact the conversations we have. What kinds of sound spaces can we cohabitate in online?
